I've tried these on three different BMW's. They're great for the first
couple of months and then they squeal like a garbage truck. No matter what
you do to try and quiet them down (leading edge chamfer, anti-squeal goop,
anti-seize, etc etc etc).

They are loud, loud pads.

(the also overheat and fade easily on the track, faster than stock BMW pads)

Good luck.

www.eurocarparts.com. One of their featured aftermarket accessories are
'Lexus look rear lights' for only 164.99. My question to our friends
across the pond is...does anyone over there actually spend money to make
their Bimmer look like a Lexus?"

Well, where there's money, there's a lack of taste. Various European
lick'n'stick outfits make a range of different lamp clusters. Smoked, clear,
all-red, all-white, all-blue, spangly Lexus chrome effect, you name it. I
have seen a couple of pimped-out horrors sporting these chrome things, but
they are not that common. The clear indicator set is de rigueur for any
self-respecting You can even buy the Lexus look for your MINI, if you're
that desperate.

"I would like to see the [mesh] grill inserts in person, they may be a nice
touch."

They're a bit nicer than those Lexusesque rear lamps :).

I noticed an article in one magazine stating that UUC gear is soon to be
available in the UK through Motormec - about time too!

What about that one time on my car when we tried to get the nut off???? The shaft kept
turning and turning and every effort we made to remove it was unsuccessful.

I had to use an impact to get that nut off, otherwise, the shaft kept turning. Oh,
that's right, I used a cordless impact so technically we didn't use any air tools.

OK Popeye, I'll start eating my spinach for next time. Definitely,
hand-cranking the spring compressors is gonna make it longer than a 4 hour
job.

Subject: [uuc] Problem with E36 electric window

All -
My E36 drivers side door window will not raise/lower correctly. It will
move about 1 inch each time I hit the button, then stop.
I've already followed the procedure:
1. close door
2. lower window fully
3. raise window fully, hold window switch in up position for at least 5
seconds.

Problem still there...

Any ideas on how to correct?
thanks in advance,
Joe Elwell

Reed switch magnet has shifted on the motor shaft. System thinks window
motor is not turning, so it figures you must have reached full up, or down,
position and shuts off power.

Proper fix is to replace motor. Many have had success reattaching the
magnet, many have failed. If your time is your own, I'd suggest giving the
fix a try first.

Thanks to all those that had input on this subject.

Learned a few things from ya'll, and managed to arrange to have her baggage
transferred between airlines so she doesn't have to deal with the delays,
and carrying heavy bags between terminals.

We'll see if it works, she's due to arrive in 19 hours.....

I don't recall you mentioning if your mother was arriving on an
international flight. If so, then she has to get her bags and take them
through customs. No one can meet her to help her at this point, but they
do have free carts to assist in the process. They also let you recheck
the bags right after the customs point, so hopefully all works out well
for you and your mum.
