Here is the actual link to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/28/automobiles/28SPEE.html The author mentions: "...in the documentary "Speed Traps!" on the Learning Channel..." but I went to the TLC website and could not find anything about it? Anyone knows anything more about it? Their tire rep claimed their A032R lookalike (which I think the event cars were running) had been on the market outside the US before the A032R, but a treadwear rating of 200 seems a little too high for a really sticky tire. > course more for the visitors than the competitors. Another $10 for 4 minutes, but the karts were fairly quick for a clutch-kart, the track was short but fun, and the airport concrete surface was WAY grippy. > Scoring is equalized based on the latest pro time into a 1000 point > system so that scores can be compared all across the country for all > 15 events. I ran something in the low-36s with the transmission in 'drive' (in that flavor it was always one gear higher than I wanted it to be) didn't bother waiting for the second run - they were well behind schedule and it just wasn't worth waiting in line for an hour. I have used McNutt Auto Transport 3 times now (twice buying a car and once selling) and had good luck each time. The last time they brought my S2000 down from CT and it did get a bit of road salt on it (I only paid for non- enclosed transport) - but it all washed off. They were recommended to me by someone who had used them a lot, and I didn't have any trouble - and the price was "right". http://www.carmoving.com/mcnutt/ Dennis 330i silver/black/manual/sp/pp/xenon/cd At 06:15 AM 03/30/2003 -0800, Neil N. wrote: >Groupies, > >Could someone please run a CARFAX check for me? > >VIN: WBSBG9332XEY81658 > >Also, have any of you used car hauling services to >transport a car cross-country (or otherwise)? It's been a while (a few months) since I last autox. Here I found out how I lost some good habits (ie looking ahead). About 1 minute in the competition part and about 1 minute on the "practice track". Then you get unlimited go at slalom and brake/turn. The part that made it just worthwhile enough was that I was able to push there cars in the competition and not get kicked out (darn you Mercedes from kicking me out of your event). ;) I think it's more worthwhile for a person that has never autoxed before. My girlfriend enjoyed pushing the cars to the limit, but also thought the seat time was a bit lacking. I think it'll really be worth it if you bring a buddy that thinks he's a hotshot driver. Then you give him a whooping. And finally, you get to rub it in every chance you get. I didn't get many responses, but thought I'd come at it from a little different angle. Are there parts of this system that I should try to lube or do any kind of maintenance on? I can't say I'm too familiar with the operation. I can't find anything in Bentley, other than mention of where two components of the system are. If I can't get things to work properly, I'll have to start looking at replacing components. There is a Cruise Control Module that Bentley says is behind the glove box and the dealer says is in the kick panel. There is also a Cruise Control Actuator under the hood. Would one of these be more likely than the other to be the culprit? Dealer pricing on both is near the prohibitive range. Thanks for any help, Chris B. Since the 328i muffler is chambered with a vacuum valve and the M3 is not, will the check engine light trigger (and continue to trigger after a reset?) if the valve sensor is left disconnected with the new M3 exhaust? Please reply to me directly if possible so I can arrange a reset at the dealer (if necessary) on the way home from picking up the car? The new instrument cluster (sans coding plug) was programmed for the car, however in order to transfer the mileage I need to buy a coding plug and adapter harness and send those two items along with the new and the old instrument clusters to BMW in New Jersey where they will encode the mileage into the coding plug. I was told this morning that the entire process takes about 4 weeks. I opted for the sticker on the door jamb and a zero mile instrument cluster. It's nice to have a functioning tachometer again though. Once again, thanks for all of the info regarding this issue. Simply plug the vacuum line. There is no monitoring system for the flap, so the DME will not know if it is open or closed. - ----------------------------------------------------- BMW Special Tool Rentals Pay per incident tech support - ----------------------------------------------------- Brett Anderson KMS (440) 338 1650 www.koalamotorsport.com OSS committee member ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003 19:21:57 -0500 From: "Nancy Fluharty" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Shop Lights In response to Neil, Neil said: "Hint: figure out where your car usually is when you work on it, and make sure that one fixture isn't masked by the open hood." Neil - this gets tricky when you have both an E36 and an E30! Neil - I heartily recommend a flourescent drop light. Cooler, more durable, and the larger light source reduces contrast and helps fill shadows. I had a retractor reel w/incandescent purchased maybe 20 years ago, and recently spliced in a flourescent fixture. Much better. Just did my 35x24 garage last month . Most (Lowes , Home Demon etc ) overhead fluorescents come with a pig-tail enabling them to plug-in to outlet .so ...have LOTS of outlets put in the ceiling then you can put light wherever you want it . You will find that you can buy several new 4' fluorescents for the cost of ONE 8 footer ..and replacement tubes are MUCH cheaper too ...so if u need 8' of light in some odd corner ..hang TWO 4'ers and plug em both into the above mentioned overhead outlet .When one bulb goes gaga the other fixture will continue to light your way to install a new tube . Use at least TWO GFI protected circuits for JUST lights ...then when one blows ..other still gives light .Advice previously given on separate circuits for POWER tools vs lights definitely applies . NOW is the time to put in the 250V outlet you WILL eventually need for the fancy aircompressor and welder you swore you'd NEVER need ..... Wish that you lived in Seattle .'cuz Boeing has the World's finest Surplus shop there ..airplane seats to 2'long industrial strength fluorescent drop-lights capable of surviving being dragged over jagged bits of sheet metal all show up there for real-cheap (box of 40 used 4' fluor tubes cost me $4 ..OK so I throw a couple away ...so what ??) .I have 4 of those 2' fluorescents scattered around in various garagii . Do NOT line garage with plywood ..does not meet fire-code ,voids your home-owners insurance ...but makes a Grand Spectacle when it burns .5/8" WALLBOARD only ...taped properly to meet firecode !! .Install several fire-extinguishers close to the exits (ensures YOU can leave the scene ) . Story about drop-lights follows .... As a teenager my son worked as auto-mech for a friend in his 'ribbon-development' shop doing general auto mech work surrounded by restoration shops for P-cars, Jags , BMWs and Harleys. One sat AM boss goes into shop 'just to change the oil and plug leaky gastank ' in his pickup ...puts it up on hoist , hangs droplight from subframe, starts gas draining into bucket on floor ...realises he needs a wrench for oil drain ...steps away to get it round corner . Hears a funny 'pop' sound ...returns just in time to see flames going up wall of shop next to restoration booth .....It eventually took the whole 250' long building 'cuz there were NO fire-walls in the attic Guy used up all 4 or 5 fire-extinguishers local firecode made him have . The mostly underinsured Harley boys were VERY upset ,as was owner of P-car twincam motor stored in attic of VW shop. Building was never rebuilt . Cause ?...probably a bursting bulb in the droplight ...
