Maybe in this instance, you should go with a full square of
lights instead of the horshoe described earlier. That way,
no matter which way your hood opens, one bar will be
horizontally across the car, lighting the engine bay. Also
good if you own a BMW and a Porsche, I suppose ...

Yes, most building codes require 5/8" firecode sheetrock(heavy!!!) on the
wall adjoining the living space, or the whole garage if it is under living
space. Also required on detached garages unless they are more than 10' from
the house.

There's not?
My 328ti has the DME from 328 donor car.
Since 4-bangers have a single tip and no flap I always have a fault
code for exhaust flap because the car never had one.

  04/05 - Saturday
Second autocross of the season at Texas Motor Speedway!
Don't miss out to have a lot of fun and learn about your
car's capabilities in a safe environment. All you have
to do is show up and be willing to have fun (new loaner
helmets are available, as is instruction)!

This will be our first event at TMS and we are planning
on setting up one of the largest and most entertaining
courses we've ever done, in a lot larger than even Mineral
Wells ex-helicopter pad. It's Texas baby, and with 66 acres
of area, we will have a course *over* 1.6 miles in length
and with plenty of runoff room! For more info, check out
the autocross site or contact any of the officers/volunteers:

5/8" is required by code in my area for adjoining
walls + 3 feet and ceiling. I think it technically
has to be taped too.

The 5/8" fire code stuff is marked on the back
with, "fire core" or something like that. Ask
the folks at HD, Lowes, wherever.

Gruppe,

If you haven't already seen it on the E30 Yahoo Group
or one of the two e28 boards I frequent, here it is. .
.

I got in a wreck Saturday night, and the car is gone.
All of the info (including pictures of the location
and the damage) is here:

Keep your eyes peeled for a good blue or black '86 -
'88 535i/iS 5-speed in your area. I should be in the
market by the middle of April.

Scott,

What Brett said. No problem. Take off 328 exhaust, install M3 exhaust, plug
vacuum line, drive away. Did this three years ago to my car, put a 97 M3
exhaust onto a 99 328is - direct bolt on, no codes, and no problems since.
Enjoy the extra aural feedback!

Brad:

Sorry about your lost. We feel your pain. However, since you do not know
what the future will bring in terms of settlement / claims, etc., it may not
be such a good idea to post everyone on your site. While you may not have
been at fault and the other driver's family seems amenable to settlement, we
live in litigious times and we just don't know. The last thing you would
want to see is to have the other driver, his family, your insurance comp.,
or his insurance company using something that your wrote and posted on your
website against you. Get the settlement check in hand and then post away.

Good luck in finding a replacement.

Be safe all.

Also, go to a doctor ASAP. The longer you wait, the more damage you might
do, the higher the chance the insurance company will try to not pay etc etc.

Not making judgement about your accident, but if you had 100ft skid marks,
then did that type of damage to your car, it was a good impact with alot of
energy. DO NOT DISCUSS your speeds on your website. I have seen cases of
insurance companies using the data, skid mark lengths etc to try and show
you were traveling at a much higher speed. In fact, I would do as the other
lister suggested, and just show pics, but no discussion of the accident
until it is over.

My father was hit head on driving my 535i. He was doing about 20, the other
car about 40 and the damage looks about the same as your car.

Regardless of how someone acts at the scene etc, after they are coached by a
lawyer, have time to think about what happened, start to think that you are
going to sue them for everything etc, They suddenly become very tough and
react to what their legal advisor tells them.

I have had people change their story, make claims to their insurance company
and mine after the fact, more than once. This is even when the police
report finds them at fault, tickets them for it etc.

The longer you wait about going to the doctor, the harder it might be for
you to get coverage for your injury.

As to your car and selling parts etc, you MIGHT not be able to touch it if
they declare your car a total loss. It is then the property of the
insurance company depending on where the car is, you might not even be able
to touch anything except personal items in the car.

In our case, the car was towed to my parents house and it took 6 weeks of
lawyers going back and forth to determine the fault(other driver) and then
the value of the car. They offered $800 for a 87 535iA in decent shape,
everything worked well, but it had high mileage. Think we got it up to
$3100 and just let it go. We offered to buy it back for $500, they would
not take less than $1500 haha. So my dad took pictures of it leaving on
the flat bed for me, ahha.

Good luck and just looking at Autotrader, there are several sub $3500 535s
out there. I bought a 87 535i from the orginal owner in atlanta back in 97
for $3700, it was in great shape, dealer maintained and with all records.
He was asking $8500 and I talked it down to $3700 cash in hand, waving in
front of his eyes, reminded him of the amount of tire kickers etc. So keep
that in mind, asking prices on old cars like that are usaully very easy to
bring down.

Mike
