Subject: [uuc] Sparco products at discount - Any interest?

Group,

Just curious if anyone had interest in Sparco seats at
a discount from list. I'd probably be able to get you
$50 or more off of each seat, depending on model, plus
savings on shipping.

For instance, a set of two Sparco Evo's (likely the
most popular, as an example) at list (HMS, OGRacing,
etc.) are $1,098 + shipping. Depending on your
shipping address, I would estimate about $925,
including shipping, through me. Mounting hardware is
also available, and is also somewhat cheaper than
list.

These are coming from an authorized distributor, so
all products are kosher. All orders will be placed
custom, so colors, etc., can be chosen in advance and
exact pricing and shipping times will be available
before you place a final order.

Just trying to gauge interest. Contact me off-list if
you would like any other info. There are similar
savings available on other racing-related products.
Contact me with your needs, and I'll let you know
what's available and what the prices are.

Regards,

Neil

Subject: [uuc] M6 Window Sealing Problems

Has anyone gone through the motions of getting windows on the M6 or 635 to seal
tightly/correctly?

My M6 is letting in a LOT of windnoise just above and behind my head as I'm
driving. Subsequently, I've ordered all of the rubber for both doors with the
intent to replace all of it.

That being said, currently, when I shut the door, it doesn't close tightly
because the window is up to high and hits the existing rubber.

Is fitting the new rubber and adjusting the window a difficult thing to do?

Subject: [uuc] Battery for E30 325 and E36 M3

In rebuilding the 325 as primarily a track car I need a new battery.

Will my M3 battery replace the 325 battery?

I'd like to put the new good battery in the M3 and move the existing one to
the 325.

Also, is there any reason not to run a standard remote starter switch to
the starter relay? BavAuto sells a gadget for $90 that plugs into the
diagnostic port but that seems excessive. I already have a remote starter
switch.

The clips attach to strips that are glued to the
door panel itself. Sometimes the clips are fine
yet the strip has come unglued.

While you have the panel off blast the latch
mechanism with some solvent/lubricant. I have
to do that to my E36 latches every year or so.
Frees them right up. Same with the lock cylinders.

Peter:

Agreed. My Indian room-mate, a 35-yr old Econ PhD,
did this at my suggestion. A Scooby Impreza wagon
with the 2.2L engine and 5-sp.

He had never driven anything before, walking and
bussing his way around the US or riding with friends
on long trips, which I found to be an amazing
achievement given that he has been here over 10 yrs.

Anyway, I sketched the tranny and clutch and off we
went with his 'new' Scooby. He had no idea of mass,
extent, turning, driving, prediction, nothing.
Imagine someone who has NEVER been in the driver's
seat of any car and never ridden a bike. No idea of
closing times, traction, steering input, feedback.
Simply no concept of it at all. We did lessons each
day for 3 weeks. At the end of it, he was pretty
decent.

He is still not a good driver, but no problems with
the clutch and he knows his limits. Does
long-distance trips and such w/o difficulty. Having
watched me work on the car, he diagnosed a failing
battery while in MD (far from home in GA), drifted
into an AutoZone and got a new one.

The Indian scriptures have a saying, "Nothing can be
taught, but everything can be learnt." It comes from
a story about a forest-dweller who learnt/learned to
shoot a bow and arrow better than the prince by
practising in front of the statue of the prince's
teacher in the forest. The teacher was upset as he
had promised to make the prince the best archer in the
land and asked for the forest-dweller's thumb to make
his promise to the prince true.

My room-mate is that forest-dweller. Some of my other
students are too-sharp city-dwellers!

Hello everyone:

I'm looking to ship a car from Detroit to Brett's shop in the Cleveland area. If
anyone has any good experiences with auto transporters and know what I should expect
to pay, please give me your recommendations. I would drive the car myself except it
has been stored for several years and I don't know how long it'll have to be worked on.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Once I beat the seat into submission, the fit was like a pair of jeans. I
sort of "put the car on" rather than got into it.

Subject: [uuc] [e34] M30 - "high flow" exhaust options

Hello,

I have a modified M30 - stock bore / stroke / compression / ported and
cammed head (Metric Mechanic "sport" head) / JC chip. Using the stock
exhaust manifolds and cat. With an eberspracher exhaust on the car, the
engine has a flat sport in the torque band from 3k to 4k. With a B&B
Triflow exhaust on the car, the motor pulls noticably better in the same 3
to 4k range.

I love the way the car runs with the B&B but I'm not sure I want to live
with that level of noise on a daily basis. I'd like to find a quieter
solution.

Here's the questions:

- - What exhaust systems should I short-list that can provide similiar torque
response yet not drone like the B&B system? I'm concerned that many of
the so called "sport exhausts" tune mostly for note and may not effect
torque.

- - Would headers with the eberspracher system be an alternative solution?
(Headers for the car are out of production I believe so this in itself is a
problem).

Thanks!

My guess is the exhaust resonance is altering the air flow signal in the
flat spot region. A chip made for your specific cam/intake/exhaust
combination should fill in that flat spot.

At least two of my Poodles are as big as you, Matt. That's standing-up
dimension, not circumference.

And don't get any ideas because they have curly fur! They'll bit your
janglies off if you try that sneaking-up trick of yours!

I have moved McNutt several times with good results.

http://www.carmoving.com/mcnutt/

Upper WI to TN was $325-350, CT to TN was $625-650, TN to MO was $325-350.
These were are open (non enclosed)
car hauls - and all the cars could be driven on/off the truck. Be sure to
tell them the car does not run, they
will charge extra :-(
