E32 or E36 auto dimming mirror. I'm looking for one also.

I have one with compass coming soon to an eBay near you. Its too bulky
for your car.

Hi John,

It's a popular mod for M Roadster/Coupe owners.
Here's a link that might give you some ideas.
http://www.mz3.net/articles/173.html

I also bumped my mustang mirror off the glass a long
time ago. Using that "oem quality" mirror glue you
get at the local auto parts store just does not last
as long as the original, at least for me. I'm
re-glueing it back up every couple years.

Looks great!

Actually, they _are_ meant to be tossed around...

Add the Euro swaybars, UUC Tuned Spring Set from Project X, your 18" wheels
with serious rubber, and even some UUC Ultimate Big Brakes to round it all
out.

It's a BMW after all, no matter how big it is.

Subject: [uuc] new dyno results on the 750iL/6

My '98 750iL/6, a.k.a. "Project X", has been back at KMS for a few minor
tweaks and some dyno testing.

Dyno testing was done this morning.

Powertrain modifications:

- - 6-speed manual conversion
- - UUC performance exhaust

Everything under the hood: totally stock.

One interesting fact uncovered in the testing... the automatic
transmission's kick-down switch had been left in place and for reasons not
entirely known yet, this was responsible for a 30hp loss at full throttle!
The switch has been sent out to pasture now, which means when I have the car
back, it will have a 30hp kick with no other changes. I can live with that.

Final results, measured at the wheels:

336.2hp, 376.8lb-ft @4200rpm

Dyno graphs will be here tomorrow. I could hear the evil in Brett's voice
as he said, "Can't wait to see what she'll do once we start on the motor
work." Me too!

Friday evening Charlotte (wife) and I had about an hour to kill before we
were due to pick up our daughter from the BFD concert (don't ask) at the
Shoreline Amphitheater. So we drove by Fremont, California's Auto Mall,
stopped at Claridge's BMW (dealer) and walked around looking to see what
they had on the lot. We especially like doing this when the dealership is
closed. :^) Observations:

1. 90% of the cars on the lot are white, black, silver or dark blue.

2. They sure do have a lot of iX's. I can see this if the dealership is
in an area where all wheel drive is popular, like where it snows, for
example. But in the Bay Area, this is not something lots of customers are
bound to want.

I'm guessing that the mix of cars and colors has something to do with
allocations? If the dealership wants certain hard-to-get colors or models,
they have to take 3 x that number in colors or models that are not selling
well, or that were over-manufactured.

Anyone have a better theory?

Rob,

Where are you from, or rather, where do you reside now? Being as you have
the car at KMS, you must be near there?
The only reason for the inquiry is that I would like to see Project X up in
the air sometime and see what was required to put that 6 speed in there.
Thanks.

Vijay, I hear that a 6 speed conversion does wonders for the 750, so I
don't see why you couldn't get nice results from this on your V8.

They order what they think they can sell. They have xxx slots spread out
through the production cycle. They have until until xx days before the car is
built to finalize the colors and options. If the have not sold the car to
someone then they have to spec it out with a best guess as to what they can
sell.

That is why it was so hard for me to find a manual transmission car - not
because BMW only builds a certain percentage - but because few dealers would
order them to have them sit around the lot (they think).

I am not sure (and the crux of David's question) if the PP is just another
option that can be ordered in any open slot - or really is allocated.

I talked to "my guy" and he said it is just an option package - no different
from sports pack or premium. Sound like the local dealer was blowing smoke
up David's skirt :-)

BTW, if you are interested in an '03 330i with PP in Silver Gray he has
one sitting on his lot - brand spankin' new. I think with ad fee and doc
fee you would be talking about $1200 over dealer invoice.

Subject: [uuc] Used '01 330i - salvage title

Group,

I know my wife will just say forget about it, and I know you all have
laundered this topic repeatedly, but maybe I wasn't listening to all of
it aside from "walk away". I've looked at the car and driven it a bit,
it is in extremely good cosmetic condition, with 15,150 miles, and curb
rash on one wheel. It has virtually every option, with premium, sport
and winter package, 5spd.

The seller indicates that he bought it from insurance company, after the
original owner damaged the left front light and fender and left rear
light and fender, without touching doors with only 900 some miles on it.
Front and rear bumper covers were replaced too. He indicates that the
repair cost was approx. $3500.

The drive revealed no obvious deficits, although on a bumpy road it
seemed a bit darty, perhaps a symptom of the original issue "too vague
and too boosted" steering?

I have a hard time understanding how an insurance company would have
given it a salvage title with so little damage. The asking price is
26,000, which is easily 2,000 to 4,000 to 8,000 under what I see others
listed for. His propostion is that as long as subsequent resale is
$4000 or so below blue book, he wouldn't expect a significant problem
moving it along.

I am going to call a dealer and inquire if the salvage title negates any
of the standard warrantees. I also wonder if there are any particular
issues with changing the Washington title to Oregon, or with insurance
on a salvage title car?

I tried to run carfax, but apparently didn't get the last two digits, so
will have to phone the seller again.

If it weren't for the salvage title situation, the 330i sport is
obviously one hell of a car... but major reservations here.
Your thoughts?
