Don't do this. Ever. Don't use silicone, or any other permanent lubricant
on any bushing.

All of these bushings are designed adhere to the arm, that's why you should
use turpentine to install them, it will act as a lubricant for a couple of
minutes, while it melts the rubber, then, once you stop moving the bushing,
and the turpentine evaporates, the rubber will be glued to the arm.

Using silicone will reduce the effective spring rate in the front of the
car. In other words, you think factory springs are soft, wait until you set
up the control arm bushing to rotate.

It's like all those aftermarket polyurethane control arm bushings that have
a metal sleeve for the bigger cars. I've yet to find a company that makes
these with the sleeve bonded, they all rotate inside the bushing. Soooo.,
Installing these bushings on your car is a detriment to handling, not an
improvement. Just as using silicone on a 3 series bushing is.

This particular E30 is lapping as fast as your LTW back in the O'fest race.

$32 plus shipping, right? Of couse, list at your local dealer is $31.75, so
take off a CCA discount and you're way ahead of the game, assuming you have
a local dealer.

Yes, $32 is cheap. It's a lot cheaper than the entry fees to a race weekend
that you'll throw away when your pedal breaks in the first session. The
pedal is enough of a weak link that any serious racer carries a spare
anyway.

The pedal can be removed and reinstalled. It will weaken it, but it will
work. But in order to work out how the clip works, you either need to cut
your carpet away from it, so you can see, or you need to go buy a new pedal,
so you can see how it works.

Either way, $32 is cheap.

you were mistaken. you saw :

1) the E46 330i Performance Package, which is a shorter diff, revised
intake/ECU (+10-15hp), different fascia, suede on the seats, etc package which
has marginally better performance than the standard E46 & costs tons more
money. the front fascia does have a bit of the M3 look to it, but it's not the
same.

2) an E46 sedan which was modified to look like an M3. this wouldn't be
impossible to do and have it look just like the real thing, esp given the
popularity of M3-look bumper covers these days.

there is no factory 4-door M3 and I don't believe there have been any reports
of there being one in the plans for the E46.

Hi Scott/All -

Well, that's yet to be determined. I will be taking the car to the track
this weekend for the first outing. And it will be test and tune only. The
first actual race probably won't be until September as the racing
organizations in Phoenix take the July - August time frame off. It's just
too friggin hot. And, after doing the circuit with SCCA for many years, I'm
no longer motivated to make long tows for a little track time... Especially
not when there are some 20-25 race events scheduled in Phoenix in the other
10 months of the year.

So, after this weekend, I'll sit back and watch Speed GT and Touring until
it cools off a little in Sept.

- -Donn

P.S. Speaking of winning... It looks like the T2 and IS fields are pretty
thin on the left coast. So, I'm not likely to have any real stiff
competition. As long as I've got someone to race with (any one turning
similar lap time), in my class or otherwise, I'll have a great time. After
getting smashed and bashed for Spec RX7 plastic trophies, it'll be a nice
change of pace. I've got a whole shelf of trophies (hideous looking and
hidden in a closet), and I must have been hit hard at least 20 times in 5
years to get those silly things.

Heh... trophies, at last year's SCCA meeting we were discussing trophies
and
ideas for them so they could be added to the budget. Someone suggested
t-shirts
which got turned down real quick! The roadracers especially mentioned
their trophies
sometimes end up costing 10K for the weekend so they could win and like to
have
something nice that they can display either at home or work not some
stinkin' t-shirt.

I have a gazzillion ones from 5 years of regional autoxing which really
don't mean much
but some of them are really nice, I keep them at work. :-)

Actually, I did get a few nice ones. I once got a set of coffee mugs. And
also won two beer steins. The SCCA hats aren't too bad either, although I
have enough now. But, those plastic goddesses, those have got to go...

Now, this is totally off topic. But, last year I also competed in Tae
Kwondo. Those were the most god awful, hideous, and gigantic trophies I've
ever seen... :) They are now well hidden in the closet. I have no idea
what to do with them.

unsurprising, but not entirely.

m30 6series: $386
m20 3series: $360
e30 M3: $302

m30 5,7series: $246

Mercedes 6L V12: $738
Mercedes 5L V8: $458
Porsche 911 6: $553
Porsche 928 V8: $363
