Hello all, I have an '89 325 that has recently developed a grumbling/vibration, for lack of a better description, at 3000rpm. I'm confident it's related to engine speed, not road speed, and I can make it happen moving or stationary. While poking around the engine compartment listening to alternators and AC compressors, I discover there is play in the fan clutch. I can wiggle the fan front to back and see the movement in the clutch. So the question is, can this movement be the source of my grumbling/vibration? Or put another way, is this movement an indication of a failing fan clutch? I guess the easy thing to do is take the fan off and go for a short drive. That makes me a little uneasy, it's gotten hot here lately. Thanks for your help. Got an interesting question. Ever since i bought my car (98 m3 coupe), I'm unable to lock/unlock the car from the passenger door. There is no keyless entry, and it works perfectly from the driver's door, and trunk. Any suggestions? Thanks! The steel outer portion of the roof is the only part that is not stuck in the tracks behind the opening. The panel with the roof lining, as well as the plastic tray that slides back and forth with the sunroof is all stuck in the open position. Before I take the headliner out, does anyone know where I could find some instructions on how this all works and how to repair it. I had this happen once before, but the original owners 100k warranty got it repaired. I am on my own now. Thanks for the help. I know the story, I had a real hard time finding my 2001 330i with a manual transmission when purchasing NEW. I could order one, but my salesman was able to find me one faster. I would check BMW CPO cars at www.bmwusa.com . The warranty extension and (usually) better financial numbers via BMW Financing would make that my first stop. Not ALL the CPO cars are overpriced :-) There is an Orient Blue/sand 330i in OH with heated seats, sports pack, and moonroof (and maybe more). There is an '03 grey-green/grey in NJ with sports, premium, xenon, PDC, and HK sound. There is a red xi in NJ with premium and heated seats. If can handle an '01, there are 9 manual transmission cars on the CPO list. With the normal lease being 3 years, there are usually lots of low(er) mile off-lease cars available and 2002 is too new for that. www.Carmax.com shows 3 330i manual sedans in their system, a blue 02 and a silver 01 and a black 01. I can't tell from the picture if any of them have the sports package or not. You can them have a salesperson go out to the car and they can check anything on the car you want checked. They will move the car to the closest center to you (MD, I guess) for a fee ($500 in the case of the 02). You don't have to buy it if they move it, but they keep the fee. Another thing to try is contact a small high-line used car dealer in your area. He can check/watch the auctions for you. If he sees a car you might want he can let you know. You will not be able to inspect it first, but you might can get a great deal. The dealer will not have to mark it up much since it will be a quick turn-over. The EASIEST way to get exactly what you want is to buy a new '03. My guy should be able to get you one for around $1100-1200 over dealer cost. That would include ad and doc fees, but not tax and title in your area. My boss just picked up a new 540i from him a couple of weeks back. Unless you had a massive refrigerant leak, you should not need any oil. Just R134a. Refilling is a lot more effective if you stick a thermometer in the center air vent and gradually add R134a as you want the air temps drop. Otherwise it is possible to overfill and reduce the system's cooling efficiency. > I vaguely remember reading (possibly a BMP catalog) of a different > AC Temperature Sensor or something that would let your AC run even > colder for hotter climates like AZ where I live. Can anyone shed > any light on this for me? I don't believe there is a temperature sensor in the AC system. HVAC does have an interior temp sensor and the dual climate AC settings are marked in degrees (and at one point may have been calibrated to correspond to them), but that's just about it. The only trick to chilling your car is tinting it.
