Speaking of being treated poorly then asked for a good
report card, when we bought our last truck, the
salesman said, "Fill out the survey with all high
marks, bring it back, and I'll buy you a tank of gas
(diesel)." So, my wife is at the dealership getting
parts a month later, gives the guy the survey, and
says let's go get that tank of gas. Here's the quick
back and forth:

"Oh, the dealership doesn't do that anymore."
"I thought you were buying it."
"No, the dealership, and they stopped that."
"I don't care, you said you'd give me a tank of gas."
"So you want me to pay out of my own pocket."
"Yes."
"I don't have any cash."
"They take credit cards."
"I don't have my wallet, it's inside."
"I'll wait while you get it."
"Are you serious?"
"Yes."
He goes inside, comes back, and says:
"I can't go right now, I'm busy. Didn't you get a
really good deal on that truck anyway?"
"Yes, we got a great deal, but you promised me a tank
of gas for the form, and I want you to buy it."
"I'm busy right now."

My wife was not pleased, and had schemes for payback.

Of course, this episode isn't stopping her from trying
to get sponsorship for the racecar from them.

Hey Rosario, how's it going? I got your phone message. I've got no real reason to
get rid of her, just was thinking about that it's time for a change. I might consider
a trade. How many mile are on the M5 these days? Tell me what you're thinking cash
wise.

This is primarily due to two things: it has a two or three stone
chips/dings, and sometime during the first owner's watch (i.e. before it was
CPO'd), it was in an accident on passenger side. Both doors were replaced,
and that side, top, and rear were repainted. Not a bad job, but not
concours perfect, rear lower valence has some paint flecking off. Title is
clean and lien free. Asking $23,900. Pictures available upon request.
Please contact me off list if interested. Thanks much.

My son has run Hockenheims (16" x 7" or 7.5") for several years on his
lowered E30 with absolutely no problems...very nice wheels for a 100mm 4
bolt pattern wheel. They "ARE" heavy however. We haven't had any problems
with "bending" or such.

Larry,

The idea is that if the price of a 3 yr old 36k X5 is $35k & not $28.5k
you're paying more depreciation than you're actually using. However, if the
asking prices you see are in the mid $30's than the wholesale may be near
$28.5k. You should find out. Even if you can negotiate another $1000 up on
the residual, you'll lower your payments.

Subject: [uuc] New Shell Gasoline

Have you guys heard the marketing campaign from Shell about how their petrol
can reduce friction and increase gas mileage? What's up with this? What
additive can they include in an unleaded gasoline that will reduce friction
but not increase particulates? And if they indeed have such a clean burning
friction reducer, what would the slipperiness benefit? Rings? What could
"coat" the cylinder walls reducing friction that wouldn't through off the
exhaust makeup at the tailpipe?

I would come closer to believing a "more potent" gasoline that contains more
heat potential, increasing horsepower or decreasing consumption.

What else -- valve seats? Fuel pump? Injectors?

Thanks to everyone who responded on the TSW wheels. The feedback that I got was very
helpful. Besides a couple of bad experiences, most of the replies were OK and
majority agree that the wheels are somewhat heavy, but of decent quality.

Subject: RE: [uuc] FX45/35 vs X5, etc.

Mike,

I believe the FX & Murano are 2 different vehicles. The FX is on the
G35/Z/Skyline cahssis & the Murano is on one of Nissan's FWD platforms.

I know from my past ownership that Infiniti is a good service oriented
company. The likes of BMW don't even hold a candle. And they make good
cars. My mom was actually looking to work at the Infiniti dealer in Mobile,
but didn't have enough product knowledge (& prolly that she's a 62 yr old
lady didn't help). They really focus on their people being enthusiastic
about the products. Like Audi, their people get driver training in the cars
for the express purpose of demonstration.

Anyhow, I find it good that the salesman had such confidence in his vehicle
that he was willing to let you (especially you ;-P) drive it to the BMW to
compare side by side. That's really over & above the call of duty. You
think a guy at a BMW would let you drive anywhere & do a side-by-side???
When I've been to BMW dealer before, they seemed like they couldn't even be
bothered. I was allowed to completely thrash a G35 sport coupe with the
nannies off for about 35 minutes. Getting a 5 minute test loop of a USED
328i was a real pain.....like it's a special car or something.

Does this make the Infiniti a better car? No, but 95% of drivers will never
really notice the driving dynamics between the 2 (FWIW, the G35 was worlds
ahead of the last 330Ci I drove--I've driven it since you mentioned about
the twitchy rear & found it not to be true, maybe yours was broken). What
they do notice is how they are treated. BMW still has the luxury of
literally being able to sell cars without sales people (as evidenced by
Larry--they wanted one so bad they put up with that crap), while Infiniti is
the relative newcomer & the parent company is just coming out of serious
financial problems. I'm seeing a lot more FX's, G35s, etc on the
road......excellent products & good service may be paying off.

I also had a pretty good guy at the Nissan dealer--same attitude. Told him
I was looking. Went flying in a SpecV. He was pretty impressed, "no one's
driven one of these like that before." Said "call me if you want to buy,
even if not....I want to go for a ride with you in a Z."
