I'll have to pick one up next time I'm at the dealer, and replace it before it leaves me without all those functions. Assume it's the same for my car? The piece is identified in Bently's as the fusable link. I called the local MB dealer to see if they had one on a Sat that fit(they did), since the nearest BMW dealer was 50+ miles away. They were very nice about it and gave me the fuse. Im wondering how many other 13 year old components will be showing their age soon? It's cracked, won't look bad until you undo the screws securing it, at which point, it will fall into two pieces. It's in an inline holder, about 12 inches from the positive terminal of the battery, on the smaller of the two positive cables. Brett Anderson KMS __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The CCA Foundation is offering courses around the country teaming up with local chapters that are doing exactly what you are interested in. Check out their website at www.streetsurvival.org. If you can make it to Minneapolis in 8hrs ;^) we'll be putting on a Teen winter driving school in February. I have never modified a car in this manner before. I have strengthened the mounting points on the front subframe for the sway bar mounts with steel to double the thickness of the metal. I have welded on the doubling plates to the rear trailing arms to strengthen those mounting points. I am thinking of using the Jeff Ireland mounts for the rear bar (the Dinan kit calls for stock mounts with Dinan rubber bushings). What does the group think? I don't like the idea of using the stock front mounts with their tongue and single bolt design, preferring the two bolt design that uses a subframe mounting bolt, like some aftermarket bars I have seen. Where can I get these? The Koni kit lowers the car substantially, and the Dinan kit has rear camber plates to weld to the rear subframe, but I need to know if a lowered car will require more adjusting of the trailing arm point upward, or downward to keep camber at or near stock. I don't wish to sacrifice tire life by going extreme on the camber. I was considering installing rear toe adjustment so long as I have the subframe at the weld shop. Which way does the toe change when you lower the car? as always, thanks, Ed ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Aug 2003 20:31:15 -0700 From: Mark Dadgar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Re: [M3] E30 M3 Suspension Advice Sought Ed MacVaugh at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > I am thinking of using the Jeff Ireland mounts for the rear bar (the > Dinan kit calls for stock mounts with Dinan rubber bushings). The car in question is one I'm considering buying. The AC was evacuated and recharged several days ago and now suffers from marginal air. Have not driven the car long enough to assess if the cooling was adequate immediately after the recharge and has degraded since - that would indicate a leak. The owner claims no leak was found during the evac and recharge - this makes me suspect the compressor. Car has 46K miles. The X-brace adds noticeable stiffness to the car's front end. It's certainly worth having, especially since the other mods you now list indicate you're working the chassis harder than, say, the average clueless commuter. However due to the model year of your car it may not have factory nutserts into which the front X-brace bolts mount. This will complicate your installation slightly. Here's one set of instructions: http://www.logun.org/xbrace.htm Or got to: http://www.understeer.com/ and click on "How to install an x-brace" under Tech write-ups. As long as your friend doesn't have a cute daughter he doesn't mind grown men learing at.... I assume this is what you mean by the Peachtree chapter's school. It doesn't belong to BMWCCA, but seems to be staffed by quite a few local members.....including many on this list--being an instructor doesn't require a background check. ;) On a serious note, Xtreme Measure is a great program, and one with which I'm honored to be associated. The next school is in October.
