Stan,

Last year I had my daughter take the "highway survival course". I thought it was well
worth it and so did she.

Stan, tell your friend to join the BMW CCA and take the Golden Gate
Chapter's Car Control Clinic. Of course, they do have a "BMWs First"
policy. But other than possibly having to buy a BMW, it is about the most
cost-effective way to get such instruction.

All of the professional race schools offer a non-track one-day course like
you mentioned, but the cost is very high.

Just a followup... I did pick the car up, and the
software change did the trick. Idle does not stumble
one bit now.

I'm not sure how TSB's work, and the dealer was closed
when I picked it up, so I'm not sure if these are
no-cost fixes if the car is out of warranty, but my
invoice was $0. Money well spent...

It was an emissions recall, so you weren't charged.

And what exactly are all of them? :-)

Here are the bushings I see:

Shift lever bearing 25 11 1 220 600
Gear select rod joint (has built-in bushings) 25 11 7 501 309
shift carrier bushing 25 11 1 220 832

Double check those part numbers...

Selling

Year: 1988
Make: BMW
Model: 535i
Chassis: E28
VIN: WBADC7400J1717969
Trans: Standard
Mileage: +193,000
Color: Bronzit
Price: Cheap

This car has several issues. It runs, but has an intermittent computer

Replacing the computer will fix this. Right rear carrier bushings is
broken. I have new bushings, but haven't installed them yet. It has a

- - Driveshaft (Driveline)
- - In tank fuel pump
- - External fuel pump
- - Fuel Regulator
- - Interstate Battery (MTP-91)
- - O2 Sensor

Major parts replaced during last two years
- - DEC Catalytic Converter
- - Bosal Exhaust
- - Autosolutions Short Shifter
- - Set of BAS Sport Springs

Subject: [uuc] Central Locking Question

I'm having a problem with the remote control on a newly purchased E46, and I'm hoping
someone can help. It has been working only intermittently, and only if I'm really
close to the vehicle (like holding the remote within six inches of the driver's side
door).

I took the car in to the dealer for some different work today, and they said something
about a failed central locking amplifier and $350+ (Customer Pay) to replace it!
Anyone have a similar experience, or know of a significantly less expensive option
than this? They also "found" a rear brake sensor that I hadn't replaced the last time
I did the rear brakes, and offered to replace that part for a mere $179, so I'm a
little suspect of what they're telling me at this point anyway.

Thanks,
Josh Coltrane

You also need all the small parts. My list is:

25-11-1-220-600
25-11-1-434-194
25-11-7-501-309
25-11-1-221-243 qty 2
25-11-1-220-838
25-11-1-220-439 qty 2
25-11-1-220-199
07-11-9-932-863
25-11-1-220-379

Or you can buy one of the new UUC Shortshifter kits.

Yeah, you could have it welded (TIG or MIG). Then, you could have it refinished if
you are interested in making it look nice (I can help you with that if you are
interested).

Or, just buy a used valve cover that isn't cracked.

So you ended up paying for two years at once? Didn't you have to pay a
40% penalty or something like that?
