I really don't want to start another "stealer" thread - especially because
my local dealer has a very good service department, not that I use it a lot
- - but it's sure hard to let this one pass by without comment.

As you know, it's hard to imagine replacement of a brake wear sensor taking
any more than 30 minutes, including a leisurely coffee and smoke break.

You should fire this dealer, and make sure they know exactly why.

Gotta agree with Mike here. It's taken me over a year to learn to do 
preventative work on the race car. I DNF's two races last year (including 
the Las Vegas race, after a 520-mile drive to get there) because of known 
issues or maintenance that should have been done.

As a matter of fact, I'm getting ready to change all fluids/plugs/filters 
on the race car today in prep for the Laguna Seca race (brake components 
arrive Monday for next week installation). I've already installed an S54 
MCoupe radiator, even though the "old" one was OK, and had the rear 
subframe reinforced, all in the last week.

Sorry - what I meant to state was that I knew my
invoice would be $0, as my car IS still under
warranty.  Someone had asked whether it would be fixed
by the dealer free of charge if the warranty was
expired, and that's the answer I didn't know.  I guess
your answer suggests it would be n/c.

Someone ask me the other day what differentials would work on a '99 M3. I'm 
not even sure what the stock one is much less what's available or 
compatible. What ratios and what cars would he look to for a compatible 
lower geared diff? He ask if there was a 3.73 available, is there and what 
car(s) would be a donor? If not a 3.73 how close to that and what would the 
cost for a low mileage good diff be? What should he expect to pay to have 
it installed? Is the stock M3 diff worth anything as a trade or just an 
upgrade for another car?

The lower control arm attaches to the rear trailing arm via an eccentric
bolt. This can provide limited camber adjustment.

I wonder if any TIS owners can contribute the wisdom of that resource on
this subject.

Dave, There's always interest in expanding the library of procedures.

I'd think that would be a great writeup to have as E36s start to age and have sunroof 
problems.  You
probably didn't get a response since you may be one of the earlier people to have 
problems that
merited taking out I'm sure you'd be able to find someone to host it once it's done.

I'll be doing an RTAB writeup at some point soon using a victory tool if I can ever 
carve out a free
weekend to tear apart the back of the car (YES, I'll do my front wheel bearings, too)


There's a lot of talk about water pumps and control arm bushings since they're 50k 
items, but I'd
speculate sunroofs tend to be higher mileage items (at least the projects you work on 
yourself b/c
of warranties).

(for all common parts with roadsters, of which there are a lot)

there's an M coupe-specific site which I've forgotten the URL
for as well.  you should be able to get a car quite cheap
(around $20-22k I'd think) and while you're not going to
find them for sale on every street corner they're out there
and you shouldn' compromise with a car which isn't what you
want.  you'll likely have to travel to get the car, which means
relying on remote resources to investigate the condition of the
car.  find trusted shops thru the digest and the resources listed
above, drive as many locally as you can & if  you find one
which works for you, don't hesitate to fly out where ever and
buy it.

All E36 sedans, coupes and convertibles have adjustable rear camber.  Quite
a bit of adjustment back there too.

However, one should also note that the spec for the rear of the E36 M3 is in
the 2.2 degree range, which is very noticeable, which may lead one to
believe it's "too much" when looking at the wheel.

If, for some reason, you cannot get the camber adjustment you want from the
factory eccentric, you can purchase eccentric inner mounts for the lower
control arm, or several companies offer lower arms with adjustable rod ends
that allow a much greater range of adjustment.
