Dennis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes:

"What got me curious is not so much that, as far as I
can dimly recall,
BMW
is the ONLY maker currently selling in-line six
engines (correct?
everyone
else has moved to a Vee configuration, right?), but
rather that BMW
mentions
that its legendary inline six-cylinder engine is
available in 2.5 and
3.0-liter displacements -- and totally neglects to
include the M3's
3246cc
motor. I presume it's because M3s are still selling
(relatively) well,
and
the 330 and 325 need a bit of promotion?"

Aside from the others mentioned in this thread, TVR
sells straight
sixes in
its
road cars.

They come in various forms. Probably worth
mentioning:

350 bhp/290 lb-ft 3.6 straight 6
390 bhp/310 lb-ft 3.6 straight 6
400 bhp/320 lb-ft 4.0 straight 6
440 bhp/350 lb-ft 4.2 straight 6

All naturally aspirated (That's 105 bhp per litre, AND
83 lb-ft per
litre,
for the top engine.) The performance, given typical
TVR kerb weight
(1100 kg), is shattering. Emissions are competitive,
fuel economy is
not.

Also BMW NA in its press release forgot to mention the
320i, which it
sells
in Canada and plainly forgot about. The smallest six
(2.0 or 2.2
litres)
has always been regarded as the smoothest of them all.

I thought Jeep still had an inline six in their Cherokee's and Wranglers as
well.

Ford's Duratec V6 is not a bad motor, especially for a high-volume
production model. My dad's Mercury Sable has the Duratec and I think it
is pretty decent engine.

One area Honda motorcycle dealer is like that. I have started riding
past a couple of closer dealers to trade with them. Just about everyone
in the place rides - and rides to work (weather permitting) - mechanics,
sales people, parts department, etc. It is fun to talk bikes with folks
that ride them and have folks that are enthusiastic work on my bikes.

Now a lot of them are young crotch-rocket kind of riders, so you don't
want to be on the streets around there just after closing time :-)

Looks to me like they put the Mini around the engine as opposed to the
engine in the Mini. :)

they're Dutch or Belgian, I forget which one. the
car was done sometime early last year, not too long after
the Mini first came out. races in an (obviously) run-what-ya-
brung kind of series.

yes. no other way to run a euro 3.2 FWD
that I can think of.

similar in execution to the RWD V8 Foci that you
see running around.

check out the mini2.com message board, I'm sure there are
pictures/story about it there. the people who were racing it
used to post a bit now & then.

One can choose not to do business with dealers and repair shops who charge
you for more than the actual hours worked. It is your choice.

Other currently-available I6 engines:

Toyota/Lexus (IS300)
Jeep (all models with 6-cylinder option)

FYI the Jeep Liberty, I know many people don't
consider it a Jeep, but it's 6 cyl engine IS a V-6

thanx for all of the replies guys...i'll pass it on to the
rest of the officials...

the main problem wasnt that people WERENT working, but that
they'd race and work in the morning heats, leaving the
afternoon heats short for workers...

we currently penalize anyone who doesnt work by listing a
DNW (did not work) on their official time, and no season
points are awarded to them for that event...

but thanx again for all your input...hopefully we can
integrate some of the suggestions, creating a better
event...

Yes, but according to your original logic Lee, you should be reimbursing your company
during those weeks you are working less than 100% of 40 hours, and during those weeks
your work more, you should just get paid your normal salary....

I have light weeks at times and I have heavy weeks at times, I get paid the same and
prefer it that way. I don't have a problem with mechanic book rates, it is a free
economy, you can choose to use them or not, as long as the actual doesn't exceed the
estimate which one based their decision.

Rich - spent all day Saturday entertaining our best customers....didn't get paid $0.01
more and didn't mind...

Could it be that BMWNA marketing intentionally left off the M3 motor to
avoid confusion when the new V8 M3s arrive?
