Get a new parts guy :-)

The E30 325i went through the 1991 model year here in the US. The ETK (dealer parts
program) shows the E36 325is available beginning as a 1990 model year. But, just
because the ETK shows it this way, doesn't mean that it was actually available in the
US. The E36 325is production for the US started in April, 1991 IIRC, although they
may have all been considered 1992 models (I don't recall for sure or not). I don't
believe there were any 1991 models and I am 99.9% sure there were not any 1990 E36
325is US models.

Rich

Your dealer parts guy doesn't understand how the BMW parts system works. It
will readily allow you to select invalid model/production combinations.

For instance I just just looked up a US model E36 M3 3.0 with 1993
production, and the part list for it happily popped up. However first
production of the US version E36 M3 was sometime in 94, not 93. Similarly
the US E36 325i comes up with 90 production as a choice. However in fact it
first appeared here for the 1992 model year, although some of the US
versions were surely produced in late 91.

I suspect that the parts system serves up the earliest possible production
for the E36 platform in general, irrespective of model or national version.

The E36 was on the market in Europe for at least a year before we saw it.
That's probably a good thing, since early version were much criticized there
for various quality problems. My 92 US 325i was pretty much trouble-free.

Just to clarify for anyone who didn't already know, Kumho makes two R
compound tires:

Victoracer V700 (the good one that everyone likes)
Ecsta V700 (the one that easily develops the Groove of Doom where the tread
meets the outer sidewall)

They're both called "V700", but their behavior is very different.

I just had my new Victoracers mounted up yesterday and I'm ready for the
GGC autocross this Saturday. I've used the Victoracers once before and
liked them, but decided last time to try the Ecstas, which were
short-lived. So now, out with the Ecstas and in with the Victoracers.

I have a set of 4 MMII wheels. Two are bent two are straight. Size 16x7
ET22 mounted with almost gone Falken GR Beta 225 45 series tires. They were
off my E30 M3 and I think they will also fit on an E34 with different tires.
$200 and I can send pictures if needed.

Hello

Does the 5 series E-34 wheels (or any other Bimmer
wheels) fit the M6's ?

The wheel off-set on the M6 is 19mm or 21mm, I think.

TIA

Henry

Mike, to really confuse the issue, ask him to bring up the same part for a
'91 325i convertible and see what he says. (U.S. market 3 series
convertibles were E30s through early 1993.)

Dinan's web site lists the S2 M2 thusly:

HP 361 [EMAIL PROTECTED] RPM vs [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Torque 282 [EMAIL PROTECTED] RPM vs [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It goes on to say: "The Dinan S2-M3 consists of the following performance
products and accessories: Stage 4 Engine Software; High Flow Cold Air
Intake/Air Mass Meter Assembly; Free Flow Exhaust; High Flow Throttle
Bodies; Strut Tower Brace; Shock Tower Brace; Stage 2 Suspension System;
3.91 Limited Slip Differential; Signature Series Floor Mats; Dinan Deck Lid
Badge and Serial Numbered Dinan-S2 Plaque."

I'm guessing that the floor mats, deck lid badge and serial number plaque
must be good for at least 25 HP, no? :^)

Anyway, it wasn't that long ago that Steve Dinan was pushing forced
induction as the way to improve performance, but I see no such option for
the E46 M3.

I find it interesting that Dinan is apparently able to
get more power out of the same engine (with no
internal modifications) than BMW ///M is able to
get. and still have the engine meet CARB certification.
I know BMW may make compromises with
tuning that Dinan doesn't take (tho Dinan still have
a warranty to consider, so they can't tune grenades
and sell them) would tend to force the factory into
a lower power figure, but I don't believe that Dinan
is _that_ good.

I'd like to see someone with their car before & after
these mods who demonstrates the improved power
& torque results.

I bet that most all of the on-road performance advantage
of the S2 is due to the change in the diff, which would
improve acceleration to a great degree, rather than anything
particularily magic that they do with the engine.

yes.

dunno what the M6's offsets are (no ETK here at work to check)
but E24's have a good bit of wheel-well space and can run
wheels from 7"-8.5" wide with offsets from 10-25mm, ranging
a bit on various combinations of thru that range.

Ben
lots & lots & lots of wheels which would fit an E24 in the garage...
