This was the reply I got after the SCCA Runoffs. Somehow it must have
gotten lost in the mail and was resent to me today. It comes with the

A variety, but right now I am using the Akebono ProACT pads. An American-made
Japanese brand (at least some part numbers). Go figure.

Howdy,

So the little glovebox rechargeable flashlight in my girlfriend's '93
325is is dead...

What're the chances I can either fix it or replace it? Is this a common
"yeah, just go here" type of thing? Be nice to have it working if it
didn't cost $50 or $100 or something silly...

Thanks!

Brembos on the STi. the stock Jurids (yep, same as
BMW's get) dust like a mofo.

They all die after a while. You can get a new one for $20-$25 at the
dealer www.bavauto.com.

No, no, no. Wrong product. The product should be a carbon fibre back
scratcher/racing deer slapper. Next time this happens roll down the
passenger window and smack the deer with the cf backscratcher or shove
it between its front legs and let it get all tangled up (like in the
movie "Breaking Away") although there were no deer in that movie.

Needs a catchy name, UUC Big Buck Slapper perhaps?

Mine was also dead, ended up replacing it for about $12 from my garage
who ordered the original BMW part.

I took the old one apart, and it does appear fixable - I just don't know
the specs on the battery, if anyone does could you please post them? Is
there an off-the-shelf replacement for it? If so, it's quite easy to
fix, but you'll need to break the flashlight into two pieces - they're
glued/molded together, and glue them together again once you change the
battery. Nothing major appears to have broken when I took them apart.
But at this cost, you're probably better off getting a new one - they
tend to get very dirty after a while from use around the car...

Best regards,
Pavel

TireRack doesn't list them, but it's worth calling and asking.

Strangely enough, my first experience with these pads was on the pickup truck...
11.2" discs in front, drums in back. 3600-ish lbs., rear brakes along for the
ride. Pads are unflappable despite my best efforts to flap them.

I put them on the M5 two days ago. I think they are bedded-in all the way now
(the ceramics always have a long bed-in time) and I do like them. Initial bite
is not the same as the HP-Plus, but I would not expect it to be. The HP-Plus do
squeal a bit as they are a cross-over street/track pad. The Akes are silent and
very smooth. And, at least in our BBK fitment, they come with a very trick
composite anti-rattle plate that is self-adhesive to the metal backing plate.
With no brake goop at all, I have no rattling.

With a design modification, it could be the Big Buck Thrapper. Probably enlarge
the market penetration as well.
