I've been experiencing a similar thing on my '98 M3/4 - the ABS and ASC lights will come on while driving, either after driving over some rough pavement at freeway speeds or braking over rough pavement (but not enough to engage the ABS). Maybe once every couple of weeks I get this. Reading the codes from the ABS computer (which I just had done this morning, BTW) shows fault #132 - No Description. One line of thinking suggests that it's dirty ABS wheel sensors; I haven't gotten around to cleaning mine. My mechanic though that it *might* be due to a faulty brake light switch (he saw a similar problem on another customer's car). With nearly 135K miles on the car and the original brake light switch, it may be overdue for replacement <g>, so I'm going to have a new one installed, as well as clean the ABS wheel sensors. Hopefully one of those will cure the problem. If not, we'll keep digging into it. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP/A5 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Oct 2003 12:55:37 -0700 (PDT) From: "Neil N." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: [uuc] HELP!! E36 ASC/ABS warning lights (Brett/Gary - are you out there???) I just spoke to a BMW technician, who mentioned that if both lights are coming on, it's most likely a fault in the ASC. I guess an ABS fault won't necessarily trigger the ASC light, but an ASC fault will trigger both. (Is that right?) Anyhow, how do I find out/diagnose problems with the ASC system? Sorry for the unashamed appeal to some of our resident experts, but a) it sounds like a few of us are having this problem and b) I've got track time coming up real soon. :-) Thanks, Neil - --- Marco Romani <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I'd check the > > 1) fuses > 2) relays > 3) abs sensors (make sure they are clean) > 4) could be the abs computer > > Marco > > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf > Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Tuesday, October 07, 2003 9:25 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Cc: Neil N. > Subject: [uuc] Re: Fwd: HELP!! On the right side of the transmission above the small front sump there is a black something held in with a retaining ring. ATF is leaking enthusiastically from this black something. What does it mean? I don't think I want to know. I was passing today on a 2-lane road - dropped the transmission to "S3" at about 60MPH, passed, and while slowing back down to crusing speed I got a good KLUNK and "TRANSMISSION PROG" message. I've had this happen before, but in researching the issue it seems most likely that it was a sensor issue. I drove about another 20 minutes to my destination - most of it in LIMP mode - had a chance to reboot at a stop light. It was after that leg of the trip that I noticed oil on the rear door. Don't know if the leak is related to the klunk - but it might be. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Oct 2003 21:57:41 -0400 From: "Mike Gambini" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] weird responses to ads?? Mike Gambini said >>I recently listed my OEM wheels/tires in the Boston BMWCCA newsletter. Got 3 or 4 very weird answers. Check this out! <weird e-mails snipped> The last time I received an e-mail like that, it was from a "customer" who as best as I could tell was working on a good credit card fraud project. He wanted to buy one of our bikes <shameless plug> (you can check them out at www.parleecycles.com) </shameless plug> The bikes are expensive, and he wasn't asking anything about price. Wanted the most expensive thing we could get him ASAP. Needed me to ship it overseas. Needed me to pre-pay duties, etc. I called our ccard company to verify, and based on the international ccard issue, they recommended that I ask for either a bank check/wire transfer, or time for the funds to clear before I ship the bike. When I pushed for that, he suddenly disappeared, never to be heard from again. That said, we also get some legitimate folks from Europe, who don't speak/write English well, and that results in weird e-mails. But with them, when I ask for payment upfront and make them pay the duties on their end, they don't mind. Just be aware of people who want it now, need you to rush, and can't wait for payments to clear before you ship things out. Trust your gut.
