I have two E30 ECU's, both from '89 iX's but they are different
versions. One ends in 173, the other ends in something else (I forget
the number now). Is there any reason I can't just swap one ECU for the
other?

Thanks,

Do not use anything with ammonia, Such as Windex or
any other "Blue" stuff. If you look in the cleaning
section of your local autoparts store there are a
window cleaners that say they are safe for tinted
windows, these clean better than Windex even if you do
not have the tint, IMHO.

Is there anyone in the southern NH/northern Mass. area
that might have a fault code reader I could use? I'm
not sure if they're all the same, but it's for an OBDI
E36.

Thanks in advance,

Neil

Can't you do the "pump the gas pedal 5 times fast" to get the fault codes to
read out since it's OBDI?

Hi

I have 5 Ronal 15X7 wheels for the E30 325 cars. These are four bolt and
come with four mounted Kuhmo VictoryRacers (205/50/15). Wheel bolts,
hub-centric spacers, and center caps also included. The tires still have
some track days left on them (as in visible tread). Wheels (silver) are in
good condition with only a few paint chips. Would prefer not to ship.
These are the R23 model ans can be seen at

http://www.ronalusa.com/wheels.html

mid way down the page (I think they look better without the center caps)

$300 firm, can be delivered to October 18,19 Drivers School/Club race at New
Hampshire Intl Speedway.

Thanks

I have tried that on my E36 and absolutely nothing happens. Is it
possible that some cars don't have that "feature"? Mine is produced

Pump the pedal 5 times in 5 seconds, begin one second after turning the
ignition on. Non US models may not have this feature as it is part of the
OBD I requirements.

I use an air impact hammer to drive the axle out of the CV. I've never had
success doing it any other way. After, of course, you've removed the
circlip.

Mines a 5/94 US M3. My success rate on my wife's 93 325 wasn't as high as
on the M3 but it worked if I did it "just" right.

Jeff,

Programa sells refurbished ECUs (or will repair yours). According to
the reference info on their website http://www.programainc.com there are
8 part numbers shown for 86-91 ix ECUs including 0 261 200 173. They
show 19 ECU part numbers cross-referenced to 0 261 200 173.
http://www.programainc.com/?go=products&v=6&pnid=173
Presumably if your other ECU has one of these part numbers it should be
plug and play.

Hope this helps,
Brian

Christian:

Mr. Jack Money and I did this on his car. There is a
circlip that is a bit different in that it is not
flattish in cross-section, but square. So, it is a
circle with about 5 deg missing and the ends turn
inwards (IIRC) and stick out. You push the ends
together (they are in the radial direction) and the
circle becomes smaller and the clip comes out.

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of installing new boots on my front
halfshafts but I
have
encountered a snag - HTF do you get the outer CV joint
off the shaft?

I have read 3-4 different write-ups of ths procedure
which all
summarily
dismiss this step with "separate the split ring and
slide the joint off
the
axle. A tap with a plastic mallett maybe be
necessary."

I have the axle clamped in my bench vice and a slide
hammer attached to
the
CV joint and I still can't seem to apply the correct
'tap' to free the
joint.

Anybody BTDT who can read me what the T-shirt says to
do?

Cheers,

Christian Els
