Hi Bernd, The server is currently at SVN revision 21971 (trunk) http://aqua.dwavesys.com/server_status.php. I believe we were at revision 21575 before that.
The problem seems to happen on the same machines: The same machine can pick a 32-bit app once and a 64-bit app the next time, then a 32-bit app. I don't believe people reporting the problem have changed their client recently, but I am not sure. Here are some questions to track down the problem: You upgraded the server software to which version (SVN revision)? Of trunk or server_stable? And which version were you using before? Does "on and off" mean on the same machine? Is there a connection between Core Client version and whether people are getting 64 or 32 Bit Apps? Are you using plan plasses?
