Dan, I'm afraid you didn't understand yet the real kernel of my opinion on this issue, in part maybe because of my often nuanceless English and in part maybe because you are too familiarized with BoltWire. The problem is not how I or you think about zones. I'll try to explain my opinion using your words:
> If you think > of the web page as a floorplan with different rooms, each room is like > a zone--each with it's own content. The main zone looks exactly like > the others in the skin file and it certainly fills space (a zone) in > the "floorplan". I absolutely agree. > The only difference between the main zone and any > other zone is what goes in that space. Main gets the content of the > page specified in the url. The other zones get their content from > pages relative hierarchically to that page. I absolutely agree. > It is a zone--which is > why it should be in the zones action. I absolutely agree. > The purpose of the zone action is to present an edit and source link > to every section of a given page. I absolutely agree... ...but now the main section links don't do that! They don't link to "the content of the page specified in the url" (your own words), but to a page called "main" that has nothing to do with the "given page" (your own words) whose zones I want to list. That is the kernel of the logical problem I see so clearly. > To leave out the main zone would be > to leave out the biggest and most important zone in the page. But now the current links of the main section are **useless** -- except when you are listing the zones of a page called "main" :-) Don't you see what I mean? Imagine I use the zones action on a "given page" (your words again) called "mypage". Well, I see links to manage all pages that are used as zones of "mypages". Everything is OK... except the fact that the main zone links bring me to a page called "main" that has nothing to do with "mypage". Why should I want to view or edit the page called "main"? I want to view or edit the zones pages used to make "mypage", and the page "main" is not used for that. Maybe the page "main" even is not used in my site! > If hiding the main (pagecontent) > zone in the zone action helps you, that's great. There's a better solution instead of hiding: in the zone action, the edit and source links of the main section should **link to the page whose zones are been listed** instead of the page "main". That would solve the whole thing. Then the fact that the tag used to represent the page content is called [[main]] and the fact that by default exists a page called "main" would be just a mere coincidence (an unhappy coincidence in my opinion, anyway). What do you think about that (logical:-) change?
