First of all: The blog plugin needs an update. What started as a customized solution, remains a showcase what can be done with Boltwire.
It is a nice piece of work but only one way to get a blogging application up and running. > I have tried to install in MANY times in several different "field" > folders and have not been able to get it working successfully. But it > seems to be working so beautifully on the demo page of the boltwire > site. I don“t know what version Dan is running on his website and if he would be able to make a blogpost now as there were a couple of modifications to the script files since the plugin came out some months ago. > Not sure what the "Backup file not found No files extracted." means or > why "delimiter=" was added to the page. As pagedata consists of only one php file and no backup file (like the blog.backup package) this message is correct. There are no files to extract. > Again, not sure what "Invalid page name Please try again." means. Also > there is no selectable plugin available when you try to uninstall the > plugin on the plugins page. This invalid page name is a miracle for me as well. The pages folder do not show any files that look invalid. > Deleting posts does not delete the post count or the comments count on > the main blog page. I've deleted all posts, but the counter still says > "Posts: 1 Comments: 2" Check site.public.blog.count and delete its content. > < appears in a lot of places in the code where I think that a < > should be appearing. I'm not sure why, I am working on a mac and have > simply uncompressed the boltwire archive. I"m using BBEdit which is a > raw text editor. Don't know if that is having any effect on the code > or if it is intentional. As far as I know this soley a question of the plugin. As I said above this plugin provides only one way to create a blog in Boltwire. One main advantage of Boltwire is that you can capture pieces of content via forms to store and display them in various ways. So maybe you are in to build your own blogging solution. These are the very basic ingredients: - Set up a page with a form for your blog post. Store title, date, categories and tags as data fields. Define a target page (the page where the form stores the content) with an url like blog. 2008.12.timestamp (created with time(now)). Set up a blog.header page to show the data fields. - Set up a page with a similar form for your comments. Define a target page with an url like comment.url-of-the-blogpost. Set up a blog.footer page to show the data fields of the comments. Put a search function on top of that page to find all comments in group=comment.url- of-the-blogpost. Use lastmodified for sorting and order. - Put all together with some search functions. You can set up a homepage and do a search for all blog posts with a timestamp < today, that means you can store future posts and get them shown when it is time. - Some finetuning would involve an idea to count posts and comments as well as tracking comments that answer on comments. This is not a solution right out of the box, but a good way to put your hands on Boltwire. And that will be rewarding as you will be able to build nearly every kind of web application over a weekend.
