Attachments. If you attach via the group, anyone subscribed that only uses their email to read the list won't see it.
I don't use the Google groups web page to view or port to this list, it is much easier to use Gmail which the account I use is subscribed to that list. Gmail can then attach to the messages posted. If you want to easily add images like below, you need to enable Inserting Images in the Labs setting which is normally the green beaker near settings on the gmail page. Easier to see the messages in Gmail which I then have automatically marked with a lable Boltwire so I can find them easily.
