I don't give boring books much of a chance. The set-up, setting has to appeal to me, the premise of the story has to appeal to me. The story does not need to move quickly, or be an "easy read", but I do want some substance.
I don't want pages and pages of show-off prose that tell me absolutely nothing about where the story is headed, or poor grammatical style, (which is one of the reasons I couldn't get into TSN either) "Wait, it gets better!" just doesn't keep me reading.
