Our local library (It's a combined community and school library - I live in a small country town!) did a massive 'weeding' session and had a huge library sale. I returned from holidays and went through the library this morning and witnessed them packing up the left over books. I commented on the boxes and the librarian said they intended to dump the books! They had offered them to charities but had received no 'takers'. I was horrified ofcourse! So I sent out a few PM's and an email to the aussie-yahoo-list (BCAUS) and within a couple of hours I had 5 people willing to take boxes of books if I could get them! Hubby is going to the city Friday night and I am going to ask him to take some boxes with him and the BCers will have to meet him at our friend's flat to grab the boxes. Another lady is driving from Adelaide to Melbourne and has to pass my front door so she will collect a box or two and another BCer is sending me a 'post bag' so I can post her 3 kg's of books and another lady offered to drive 2 hours to collect some books!!!!! So hopefully we'll find good homes for these books and save them the shame of ending their lives in a dumpster! So it might be wise to ask the staff what happens to the rejects. I remember a USA lady getting boxes of books from a library sale and sending them to people for postage! Sad to hear of books being dumped isn't it!
