I haven't posted here in a while but I have been reading all the mail. There's
a lot of new people on the list and that's great, just thought I'd put in my
two cents regarding some of the recent posts.

Bookcrossing is what you make it and everyone has their own way of doing it.
Wild releases are great and we all do them but we also swap, release for one
another in far off locations, participate in rings and rays, fufill wishes,
send RABCK's, take part in silly contests and sweepstakes, etc... You can do
all or none of these activities, it is completely up to you. The point of it
all is to get the books off the shelf and get them read and when you get a
journal entry that's just like getting a bonus prize. It takes a while to
figure it all out and find all the off-shoot sites that have been created but
it's all fun and different ways to get books moving.

As for author's announcing their books on the list, it's not all that uncommon.
A lot of BC'ers are also authors and who better to tell about a new book than
an audience of readers. If someone is willing to give their book away, it's
not a problem. Sometimes, though, there are people who do try to sell their
book here and that's considered bad etiquette. When you see a message you
don't like I suggest you simply hit delete.

I hope you all stick around, Bookcrossing is a lot of fun and the number of
really nice, genuinely caring people on here far outnumber the occasional bad
seed. Also, you will soon come to realize that although you may have joined in
the hopes of clearing out books, you will wind up with more books on Mt. TBR
than you could have ever imagined!
