I know just what you mean!! Guilt got me reading the classics the last few years and 90% of them are totally non-enjoyable for me! I wondered, too .. what's WRONG with me?? I finally tried sampling the classic authors, choosing one of their short books, to get a taste of their writing. From there I discovered a few I enjoyed very much (Edith Wharton, John Steinbeck, Willa Cather). When you look at the list of The Top 100 Book Everyone Must Read in their Lifetime, or some such, ... ha! Most of those titles that I tried were just NOT for me! So don't feel bad!
