As for the delete function on BC. I have used it a few times. Twice to delete books I had registered twice by accident (deleted the second BCID, not the first) and once when I decided after the fact to not only remove the BCID but to physically 'remove' the book from existence. (Long story for another time.) So it does have a definite use, I just hadn't thought about it in terms such as this.
