I can understand why you don't want to "deface" a book my writing in 
it or by sticking a label in - especially if you intend to trade or 
sell the book. But rather than delete the book from bookcrossing, why 
don't you send the book on it's travels with the sticky note in it, or 
the BC number written on a slip of paper?

I realise there is a chance that the sticky note may get lost, and 
hence the book would disappear, but then again... You never know where 
a book may resurface!

Would it really devalue a book that much to have something written in 
it anyway? I have seen books in Antiquarian bookshops with the price  
written inside in soft pencil - and they were not cheap books!
