Everyone has their own perception and expectations with Bookcrossing. My
personal feelings are:
  1. The only books I have marked "permanent collection" are books that I have
purchased and intend to keep. They are on my shelf as a sort of "inventory" of
my books. One day I may release them, just not now.
  2. If a BC book comes into my possession from another BCer, I intend to read
it and pass it on. It is not for me to keep. If I like it that much, I will
purchase my own personal copy.
  3. Check out the forums. Periodically a BCer accuses another BCer of hoarding
books or selling them on ebay or at a UBS. A huge fight ensues, feelings are
hurt, people are shunned and it turns down right ugly.

If you still are not sure, go back and read the home page. Read, Register,
Release.

An opinion, please.

We bookcross for the sheer fun of sharing books in an unorthodox way that
might lead to some documentation of their journey through the reading
community.

That being said, is it against the spirit of Bookcrossing to find a book
that is travelling (either a controlled release or in the wild) and keep it
for ourselves, cutting short its journey? Or is that fine to everybody else?
