Flavio Junqueira commented on BOOKKEEPER-562:

bq. I think we just need to respond more actively to the community's request.

I fully agree, hopefully you didn't get the impression I was complaining about
what you have done. I was just trying to point out that the requirement was
perhaps a different one. I'm also happy that Whitney has chimed in and
clarified.

bq. there are two jiras related to their requirements: BOOKKEEPER-562 and
BOOKKEEPER-257.

Agreed, it sounds like there are two different requirements here: determine the
state of a single ledger and process all ledgers. For the first one, which
belongs in this jira, it sounds like we have converged to something like
BookKeeper#isClosed(ledgerId). Having some like LedgerHandle#isClosed is good
too.

> We need to be able to differentiate between open and closed ledgers, because
> we want to persist ledgers which are closed and wait for ledgers that are
> open to close.
> There doesn't seem to be an easy way to get a list of closed / open ledgers
> or to query bk to ask if a specific ledger is open or closed.
