Yes, the knob on the front of the one I have in the kitchen is a bit tacky I agree. I've bought a few second hand ones off ebay too - a couple of them needed the speaker repair but they sound as good as new now. I have one in my camper van running off a Raspberry Pi with a big USB stick crammed full with an MP3 version of my library - I sometimes wonder what the other campers think is the source of the wifi signal in the middle of nowhere. The Boom is perfect with its vehicle-friendly 12V input.
