I'm not sure we ever figured out -exactly- what causes so many drivers
in the Booms to fail. Could just be that they're just a really cheap,
poorly made Chinese component. But if I were buying a new one, I would
enlarge the opening in the plastic baffle that sits over the driver. My
feeling has always been that the baffle is far too closely matched to
the woofer diameter and may come in contact with the rubber surround
when played at volume. You'd have to do some disassembly, beyond that
shown in the photo below. I'd use a dremel or similar tool and increase
the diameter of the opening by 1/4" or so.
