My experience is 40 years ago, but it was that foam was able to give better
high frequency response but that it deteriorated rather quickly and
loudspeakers needed to be re-coned more quickly.

So does rubber or foam deteriorate quicker today?  I don't know.

Search for what you want long life span or better sound with your favorite
search engine.
