In my experience, the foam surrounds are softer, and also a better fit.
I have bought some rubber surrounds as well from the same seller, and
they are pretty stiff in comparison, which raised some concerns about
the glue that would have to be used. The one that works best with the
foam surrounds appears a bit too weak, and the original manufacturer of
the speaker chassis chose something close to superglue. Due to this
uncertainty, I never used any of the rubber surrounds. I also found that
they are considerably smaller which means less real estate to glue them
to.
