I've done that numerous times. Enter it in System Preferences->Account tab "Verify password", which succeeds. Switch to the Status tab to verify server is running Switch back to Account tab. "Good" password has reverted to a bad one. (Can't see the actual password, but it's a different length than the 'good' one.)
