You should consider putting the "newbie text" into the documents -- some kind of NEWBIE ABSTRACT section -- and generating it like a TOC, skipping the ones that have no "newbie" description. That could make them easier to keep up to date, and you'd have an easy way to determine which ones have been covered and which have not.
