The Braille Star is a refreshable Braille display made by Handytech GMBH
in Germany.
It has a "Braille" input keyboard, and an 18 key keypad. Screen readers
can choose to make key assignments to any of these keys.
The display itself is concave, meaning that your fingers are sort of in
a tiny trench. It has excellent Braille quality, however its
installation is annoying in that it is not a standard USB device. It's
accompanying software creates a virtual com port, rather than being a
straight USB connection. We have found that at worksites where the
device is used, the flakey USB connection is not reliable, and we had to
hook the display up as a serial device.
The display (with 80 cells) costs about $11,000.
