Actually, the listing of the hard disk contents depends on how many folders 
there are on the drive.  The next layer depends on how many files or subfolders 
are 
in the folder you want to check out.

But, the speed of listing files doesn't seem too bad, only maybe a bit longer 
than for folders on the flash disk.

The only problem you have is if you go into the file manager, and get into the 
drive list and request disk information.  For the Western Digital anyway, this 
will 
either take several minutes or lock up the machine and require a reset.  

So, if you're wondering about free space or used space on the drive, you should 
check it out on a pc which is quite easy to do.  

I think Les Kriegler mentioned a problem with saving files in a specific 
situation, but in most cases the western digital drive seem to work just fine.
