Yes! Both units usually are in the case but the case is open whenever
we record with our individual units. We have recorded with low and medium
sampling I think and the other setting is at 8 bits at all times. It makes
no difference! My recording is fuzzy at level twelve and my wife's unit
sounds great at default settings.

Are you sure your wife's mPower has the same settings you have not just
with recording level, but also bit depth and sampling frequency? Are they
buth in the case?

Subject: [Braillenote] media menu and recording
Hi Dean and Jonathan and other knowledgeable persons on this matter,
When I first got my M-power, I complained that when I tried to record
using the default settings, my recording sounded as if I were talking
through wax paper, I couldn't understand my own recording. I thought my
audio recorder wasn't working properly till I set the level from the
default 12 to ten. I then could understand my recording but I still
don't think it is quite right. My wife's m-power works just fine at
level 12 and her recording is good and clear even at the poorer quality
settings. I still think my audio recorder has a frying sound in the
background. Should I do a 4 5 6 reset, the settings go back to the
default where I get the fuzzy, sounding recording i can't understand. I
need to be certain I set the record level to ten in order to get a proper
recording. Might this be a software problem or do I have some component
problems with my unit? I do know others have complained about this as
well and decided as I did perhaps that I had to set my record level to
ten in order for the BN to record audio properly. My serial number is
40470. Has this been investegated?
I'll be happy to send you a couple of audio attachments to show you this
problem. As I say, my wife's unit works properly at the default settings
where mine does not. Do you have observations on this please?
