You are safe as regards virus on the BrailleNote as the day-to-day virus
that wreck havoc in the PC industry are not supported by the processor
  structure used in WinCE based
machines.

The only thing with the notion of an antivirus program for the
BrailleNote is that, at this point, no virus is written that will RUN on
these units. If a virus is written that requires VisualBasic Scripting
(VBScript), or JavaScriptstJScript, this won't run (regardless of whether
the attachment is opened or not, as the BrailleNote has neither of these
scripting languages. Any virus that runs as either an ActiveX control
or an executable program for the PC will also not affect the
BrailleNote, as there's a world of difference between the MIPS
instruction set and the Intel instruction set. The only viruses we
might be susceptible to are those that would either be written to target
these specific machines, or perhaps maybe possibly those for some models
of handheld PC that also use the NEC processor that is in this device.

Here is a copy of a message I received from Dean on the topic of viruses.

As Technical support have correctly advised you, the BrailleNote is not
vulnerable to viruses. As you have requested, I will outline a few reasons
below
for your IT staff:
  1. No activex controls are run in the Internet Explorer browser if loaded
in an opened page.
2. Any Word file that is opened on the BrailleNote goes through an RTF
converter which only strips the text from the file.
3. Any attachments received via email will not execute directly from the
email client and HTML email is not supported.
I can assure you that our technical support staff around the World, for
these and other reasons, have not had to deal with even one related virus or
spyware
caused problem.
There is no virus checker that will run on the BrailleNote and our latest
software runs on Windows CE 4,2.
If you require further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.
