I always unplug it from the outlet first. If it is hard to reach, buy yourself
a surge protector. I got one for mine, in the bedroom so I can use a fan,
lamp, recorder and also be charging my unit. Never use a BN with one of those
six plug items that goes into a 2 plug wall socket. For some reason, the BN
does not pick up the power. Until I got my serge protecter, I used to have to
charge the unit, over night, in the bathroom. It was the easiest plug to get
to. Many plugs end up behind ferniture.

I would guess that when anyone takes their equipment to work or
school that it's never unplugged from a wall socket first. Most
people have things plugged in, and if any one has an office like
mine, you'd have to crawl under the desk to plug and unplug. I
will say that equipment should be shut off before plugging and
unplugging.
