Terry,
I couldn't agree with you more! I will call Enabling Technology to see if
they have some better options. They spoke about some kind of Infrared
interface which could be connected to their embossers. I'll see if that is
a bit less if still available. Maybe they are recommending some kind of
bluetooth device, one never knows! I had two different USB to parallel
cables in here, one required software of some sort and the other
doesn't. I kept getting card not recognized messages whenever I used
either cable. The last one I tried would have cost $6. Maybe 7.0 upgrade
might be configured to where a lesser costly interface might be used, I
really don't know! What's sad is I had other plans for my older unit to
hopefully help me recover some of my expense in getting the M-power but it
appears I'll need to use it to emboss documents! I'll keep you posted if I
learn anything more.

Dear Jim,
When I listened to Jonathan's demo, I thought the converter would consist
of an adapter one could put on the parallel cable so it would fit in a USB
jack. I thought such a device would cost about $9 $10, perhaps more. How
wrong I am!
Well, I use my BN classic as a braille display with WindowEyes and it's a
backup when the Mp is in the shop. If I need to emboss using the BN, I'll
use the classic or I may try using the serial port, but I'll have to
change the embosser's setup and I understand serial is slower than parallel.
I wil never, never pay $200 for a USB to parallel converter. The price is
far too high!

Subject: [Braillenote] Embosser, printer interface
Hello all,
I checked Humanware support and that inside out edgeport 421
multi-interface converter costs $250. This to me is truly
ridiculous! If you like me either print or emboss anything with a BN,
you either must keep your old unit around to emboss documents from a
parallel port or pay $250 to get that converter. I truly hope I can find
a less expensive work around but if you need to use a parallel port to
print or emboss, you need to get what they say to get or give up the idea
of embossing through a parallel port. I'm not pleased at all with this
arrangement!
Its like it or lump it, too darn bad! Use the serial port if you can,
buy another embosser or simply pay that outrages price!
Yuck! Just thought you should know if you share my concerns!
