Hi Jeff,
It has been several days since I was last able to get into my e-Mail.
Simply stated, I have a dsiaster here!
My son and I went and got the 6682. The salesman felt i needed the data
service.
When I got home, we were succdessful in getting to the ISP, but received the
message "no carrier."
I called Humanware, which was a miastake, because the Technician diedn't
seem to know what she was doing; and, after 1/2 hour on the phone, admitted
that she neded help from her colleague. (My son and I would have preferred
to talk directly to a different Technician, but she didn't seem to hear my
request.)
Suffice it to say, BEFORE Humanware was contacted, I could still do the
analog dial-8p and get my e-Mail. (We set thingsu p MOnday and had to wait until Tuesday to call Humanware.J) TO clarify, my son was here at the time and made sure the call phone ws connected properly. , When I hung up with Humanware, I could do NOTHING!
The Bn is logging in and connecting, then saying "authenification error."

I've called the ISP, and, they know nothing about using a BN, even though
I've been using the ISP with the Bn for 2 years. There was an "authenificatoin" issue when I started with the BN, and the ISP Technician said that they could take care of
it at the site.

Needless to say, I'm very frustrated and will probvably return the phone and
cancel the service. (My son is a Submarine Commander and stationed back
East. I don't really have anyone here to help and can't afford to keep
something I won't be able to use.)

You know, I've been a Humanware customer for more than 15 years. I get the
feeling that, as it has grown and the Bn became more complex,, the quality of tech support has deteriorated.
What I find sad, is that contacting Tech Support Long Distance, and,
instead of saying she didn't know how to deal with the issue, the Technician kept
us on for 35 minutes and accomplised nothing of consequence.

My Bn is able to do anything else except get online.

BTW If anyoneknows how I can contact Mike GIbson, who has been extremely helpful to me in the past, can you either send me his E-Mail
Thnaks for your help Jeff and Happy New Year.

(I'm using a borrowed system with my satellite.)

KC`

Hello Kathleen:

Remember that when you are logging onto a cellular data network, you have
to do it in two steps. The first is to log on to the cell company's
network and the second is to log on to your ISP's mail servers. If the
call is disconnecting immediately upon making its initial connection, it
sounds like something is wrong in the cell phone data log on. For analog
(Regular dial-up connections), only a single step to log on to the ISP
network is required.

Yes, the Nokia 6672 is just the latest version of my (now out dated) 6600.
I don't know if Singular's data service is the same as T-mobile's GPRS
service, but if it is, there are a few additional changes you need to
make.

In my case with T-Mobile, GPRS requires that I dial a special phone number
*99#. This some how tells the system that I am making a data call. I
also have to have an additional string in the communications configuration
settings I'm using for cell calls. Mine looks something like
at+cgdcont=1,,,"internet2.voicestream.com". This is a specific string for
T-mobile and won't work with other companies. You should check with your
Cell carrier to see if this is a GPRS type of service.

If this is a GPRS type of connection, usually, you can put anything in the
username and password fields of your communication configuration as it
won't make a difference. The cell company uses your phone as its
authorization on to its network. You do have to have correct information
in the email username and password fields in your directory of services.

To give you some idea, I have a separate directory of services entry for
my home email, school email and my domain. I also have a separate
communications configuration setting for Home network, 2 of the airports I
use and my cell calls. This way, I can mix and match them as I need to.

I hope this didn't make things more confusing for you. When you talk to
Singular in the morning, I'd ask for a wireless internet specialist. But,
of course, I'd be happy to keep answering any questions you might have.

hth
Jeff
