Humph! As a rehab counselor, you can make that decision. As for other people on this list, they have no right running down another user. The person who had the most to say is the person who has many of the difficulties, and had help getting the equipment. I'm about to unsubscribe. There was no point to be judgmental here.

I have MS, the doctor and I have discovered. I can't even pick up a BN anymore. I thought about a pk, but, no, I'm not going to ask a rehab counselor. I don't even have one.

Yes, you're right. I am not necessarily saying the young man
isn't
trying, but what I am saying is that before I would ever spend
more
money, I would want to be sure the individual was able to use the
devices he already has. That's not making judgments, that's
simply
common sense.

Sorry, folks, I don't think who is, and who is not trying is
related at all. That's not our judgment to make.

Sounds to me like he has a voice note not a braille note or he
would already have braille and would be already taking notes for
himself. Right there, if he is not using it to its full
capasity, why should they buy him anything better? Even if he
records the class and takes notes on the BN, he could do that
until he felt confident enough to just use the BN.
Sounds like he is not trying very hard.

If an individual already has a Braillenote and a Laptop, I have
to be
fairly straight-forward here. Unless either of the devices are
not
functioning as they should, I certainly would be hard pressed as
a
rehabilitation professional to justify buying a transplant.
However, if
the individual in question required the ability to manipulate
large
files, that might be a good reason for the mPower.
And I will tell you this, were that individual interacting with
me, they
would never get an mPower unless they could demonstrate the
ability to
take notes without assistance.
I know, that's hard, but in my opinion, when someone is taking
notes
for you, you are not doing some essential required thinking.
I always encourage thinking when I can, (unless it's me that has
to do
it smile)

I guess I must be missing something. If you have a BrailleNote,
then
you
already have a notetaker with a braille display. So you should
be able
to
take notes. Just turn the speech off.

But if you have a VoiceNote, then there is no braille display.

You should also be able to transfer your KeyWord files onto a CF
card
and
use it to transfer data from your CF card.

I don't blame you for wanting an Mpower. Why not say you want an
Mpower

transplant? They are much less expensive than buying a new unit.
But
if
you have a VoiceNote, that won't work.

In the meantime, you can use your BN a lot more than you are
doing. If
you
have a good resource teacher, he or she could fight on your
behalf.

: Hi Humanware staff, I have a clasic braille note and I want
am-power.
My
: family doesn't have the money to buy it, so I am fighting with
the
school
: district to get one. I use a laptop right now to do all of my
assignments
: for school on. The only thin I use my bn fir is doing
calculations. I
know
: the M-power accepts USB drives. My arguement to them for right
now is
that
I
: wouldn't have to use the laptop as much because I'd be able to
write
: documents on the braille note and wouldn't have to transfer
anything
to
: anywhere else, I could just save it on my USB drive. Also, I
have a
para
: that takes notes for me because I can't listen to speach and
the
teacher
at
: the same time. I told them that I could use the braille display
to see

what
: I have typed. Can you help me build on this so I could get an
M-power?
