Well, first, the sign you are talking about sounds like a format sign, so while in a document, go to the options menu, and space down to braille display and you will see options such as line reading mode, you probably have it set for linear which will give you this sign, I have mine set to two indented spaces so I don't see all of those formatting signs. Seconly, in order to check the size of your compactflash card, or any storage media, go to the file manager by pressing f from the main menu, then press d for directory and space down until you see the drive you want, do not press enter, instead, press space with i or read with i and you will hear the size that is free and the total amount of your card.
