I assume you're running xp.  The new hardware wizard should show up when you 
plug the thing in and either use the generic drivers or those from the cd if 
you installed the software that came with the reader.  

I have the sandisk image-mate 12-in-1 reader and all I had to  do was plug it 
in and windows found it immediately and used the windows drivers.  I didn't 
have to install the software that came with it.  

Not certain if all readers work in the same way though.
