..Processors in laptops are on the order of 2, 3 gigahertz. By contrast, the processor in the mPower is about .45 gigahertz. *No*, they're not the same thing. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Wolfe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I have a question then, how come a laptop has all the functionality then? I
mean they are about the same except memory and processor. MMmmmmm. Then, in
the future there should be some increase of memory and processor speeds do
you agree with this? Write back okay.

The operating system under which Keysoft is running is called Windows
CE.
The CE stands for "compact edition".
This version of Windows is a slim and trim version, designed to run on
low power portable devices.
Just as a compact automobile doesn't have all of the features of an SUV,
Windows CE does not provide nearly the functionality one would find on
devices running Windows XP or Linux. Accordingly, it does not come with
the full array of drivers for supporting various peripheral devices that
one would find on a computer. No Windows CE devices currently come with
scanner drivers, scanners are not supported in Windows CE. Not only
that, the processor and memory available in the Braillenote is simply
not enough to allow efficient OCR.
The Braillenote is one of the most versatile portable devices on the
market today, but it is not and never will be the same as a personal
computer.

Peter: Ideals are all very fine but those who've responded clearly have
a
lot of knowledge regarding the workings of machinery such as this. IT
isn't
that they don't necessarily wish to have these upgrades, but they have
the
technical knowledge to realise that they would be impractical under the
present circumstances.

I hope this clarifies.

To all,

I want to know the sources of the prices for these so called
expensive
extra suggestions that I posted about. I am a firm believer in doubt.
I am
still for the deafblind community for any and if not all my
suggestions.
The
scanner is of course needing plugins but, those are free within many
computer firms across the globe. I am also wondering to all the list
that
for all these suggestions if there will be a lot of upgrades in the
future.
For in which, the more updates there will be less portability or
higher
prices. I would like to see all your suggestons to be pondered of
course
however. Tahanks for the consideration for listening to me and my
ideals.

Sincerely,

Peter Wolfe
