Hi all, the FM radio is a tiny chip on the BrailleNote and VoiceNote mPower motherboard. It's the same kind of technology you see on some cell phones these days. I now don't take my Sangean radio with me when I travel, and most of the time I can hear the local NPR outlet, or BBC Radio 4, or National Radio, depending on where I am in the world. However, it's nowhere near as powerful as you would find even in a simple portable radio, so in weak signal areas it may not be sufficient. It was an extremely low cost addition for us to provide, and it does have a lot of use, but it's not a replacement in every situation for your radio. Hope that helps.
