Hi Wil, You can store the maps on compact flash, in fact, it is recommended. You can use the side slot, I did that for about a year on the classic unit. On my mPower, though, the side slot didn't work, so I used the back slot instead. Since I've now gone wireless regarding the GPS receiver, using the back slot is now preferable. Before, when using a serial receiver with a pouch, the side slot was preferable, as the cable didn't get in my way then. Best Regards,
