Dear Mr. Mosen,
Your response here, and the one from Mr. Jackson answered all the questions I posed. I am most appreciative of the degree of comfort I have received from your replies. I'm very sure that I will be as happy with my MPower as I have been with my classic BrailleNote.

Thank you,

Sammie Clay

Hi sammie, just to add to Dean's reply to you on this, I first
became
aware of this issue on Friday when malaina and then Sarah posted
messages
here. Immediately, even when there was one occurrence of this, I
raised a
red flag with our Development Team and I can assure you we take
this kind
of thing extremely seriously. No data on any computer is 100%
safe. I
guess if such a beasty was ever invented, no one would buy
anything else.
But we do all we can to ensure that data is as safe as possible.
I am now
aware of four occurrences of this issue among the huge
BrailleNote user
base. This isn't to try to minimise the issue, because that's
four too
many. However my point is that the experience is not typical,
and while
back-ups are always advisable, I think it's reasonable not to
expect that
you will ever see this.

The issue with cards in the machine has not changed. that is to
say,
Windows CE has always performed a Scandisk function when the unit
is
turned on and in rare cases we have seen the card formatted.
This is why
we have always advised people not to power on with cards in the
slot, just
to be safe. So yes, we are working on this issue with the Flash
Disk, and
appreciate people letting us know as much as possible about the
kind of
condition the unit was in when it occurred.

With new hardware, there are often growing pains. I have a
rather
expensive appliance here and have just had it replaced for a
second time.
I'm told their return rate is low, but of course when I'm at the
end of
this, that doesn't give me much comfort personally, so i do
understand.
But I think we've proven ourselves responsive to these issues in
the past
and we certainly intend to continue that responsiveness in
investigating
these issues.

I hope this helps with the questions you raised.
