Well, I appreciate your help, but here is what I have done to
this point.
I had a friend insert my card into her unit, and it saw all of
the files and folders just fine.
I cannot see these files or folders on my unit.
I have a second sd card, that is a 512 mb card for downloading
upgrades, and it does not recognize the card being inserted at
all.
If I insert either card into my pc, via the card reader,
everything is fine, I see all of the files and folders, and I can
open any document that is a word document and read it or edit it.
So, I would be more apt to say, that the problem at this point,
is the sd slot and not the card.

You'll probably have fixed your problem by now, but here are the
instructions.
Move everything from the card if you can. From Main Menu, press
U. At the "drive" prompt, press K. When you see "directory
name" press T chordc (Ctrl T). Go to the Windows folder. At
the "list of programs" prompt, press Space with X, (read with X).
Press the letter P twice so that you see "preparing SD card".
Press Enter. You will be told that formatting this card will
erase all of your information. Press Y to go ahead. Press Enter
at the Command Line, and just follow the prompt.
