Mary,
This is Joseph. This is nothing to do with Bookshare. HumanWare has
indicated that it might be related to memory issue or something.

I think this bookshare thing is on their end. I couldn't download a book I
wanted yesterday on the mpower voice note and quite honestly had
downloaded
several books over the past 3 monthswithout any problem. so I have a
feeling
it might be a problem with the bookshare web site itself.
I wasn't even going to say anything about it because I was going to
contact
Peter Cially on Monday about my particular problem.

Hi Joseph and All,
Well, I don't have a BookShare account yet, as I haven't gotten around
to doing the paperwork to prove blindness. So, I hadn't done a lot
with the downloading of files. However, in the few times I have
tried, I've most often only gotten one file before getting some sort of
error message.
But,
anyway, here is what happened when I tried tonight.
I first tried with the PK. I went to the Humanware site and found a
file to download, and then checked the information mode info before
continuing.
It
told me program memory used 12,892K, allocated 20,084K. Storage
memory used 1976K, allocated 20,080K. Total ram 40164K. Now, with
this being the PK, I downloaded a real small file, the MP3
introduction to KeySoft 7; and, after I did this, the only value of
those above that changed was the program memory used, changing to
12,948K. All the others stayed the same as before, including the
storage memory used and the total ram.
I then tried to download the conclusion MP3 for KeySoft 7. And, it
did tell me that the download was complete, followed by the words
unknown URL.
Then,
when once again going into the support information mode, the program
memory used was the only thing that had changed, going to 12,944K.
And, yes both those files, the 535K and the 326K respectively, played
just fine on my PK.
I next got out my mPower and first tried the same two downloads. So,
before I downloaded the introduction file, I was told that the program
memory used was 8,024K, and the amount allocated was 32,064K. I was
further told that the storage memory used was 1,336K, while the amount
allocated was 32,064K.
The total ram was 64,128K. When the download of the introduction file
had completed, once again, the program memory used was the only thing
that had changed, changing to 8,040K.
Then, once again when downloading the conclusion MP3 file, I got those
same two messages, that the download was complete, and then the
unknown URL.
And, once again, the program memory was the only thing that had
changed, changing to 8,028K.
Then, after I got that unknown URL message and checked the
information, I couldn't do a thing but go back to another page. So,
this time, I decided to download the Bluetooth MP3. The download did
start, but then I got the failed to download message. And, when
checking the support information, this time, both the program memory
used, as well as the storage memory used had changed, changing to
8,080K and 1,724K respectively.
But, this time after checking the support information, I was put back
on the same page where I had just been downloading. So, I decided to
try and download the fractions MP3; but, this time, I got both the
failed to download message, as well as the unknown URL one. And, once
again, both the program memory used and the storage memory used had
changed, changing to 8,128K and 2,112K respectively.
I didn't try to download anymore files, just exited KeyWeb. Once
again, as with the PK, the introduction and conclusion files played
just fine on my mPower. As for the Bluetooth and fractions files,
only part of each of those files played, with each starting at the
beginning but not finishing.
I got 376K of the Bluetooth file and 384K of the fractions one. I
performed the downloads on both units using my wireless connection,
did a regular reset on each unit before I inserted the wireless card,
and the mPower I have isn't a transplant unit.

Dear list,
This is Joseph. A proof can be found if you go to the Support
information mode. Go to Options menu and press space with i. Press space
with I again.
This will give you the state of RAM. When you monitor this value
overtime, you'll notice that the memory usage has increased. This is
because KeySoft and other programs use RAM for temporary storage. My
statement about RAM shorage is that when IE (KeyWeb) downloads any
file, it'll first save it on the temporary loacaiotn, which happens to
be RAM (actually RAM stands for Random-Access Memory. Read-Only
Memory, or ROM, is a memory where you cannot edit the information that
is in there.). After it is saved, then it will copy it to the desired
loaciton. My hypothesis is this: Because any file that are downloaded
uses RAM (part of KeySoft System Disk) to store temporary copy, and
there happens to be a lot of programs which uses the same memory
space, then it might cause it to truncate. My guess here is that after
you download the first file from ANY site e.g. Bookshare, and if the
memory usage has been signifacantly increased, then this might cause
the second, or third file to be broken (it might fail to download). I
would like to suggest that: for folks who are experiencing this
problem would folow this instructions:
1. Before downloading the file, go to support information mode and
press space with I to check the memory value.
2. Download the file as you normally would.
3. Now, go back to support information mode and press space with I again.
The memory value might have increased.
4. Download the sccond file. It might display the failure message.
5. After this happens, go to support information mode for the third time.
Press space with i. The memory value might have increased
signifacantly (make sure you read the value carefully, especially storage
value).
I would like to apologize if my post has become long. I would like to
see this problem be solved in the future.
